With normal stay clean linings you will still need to clean the bottom of the oven... *see note at bottom of page. Self cleaning pyrolytic oven linings are the new in thing... I have not owned one, but am told they work well... I wonder about any smell. Hobs give choice of gas, solid hotplate, ceramic, halogen, and induction... for induction you need pans which contain some iron. Considerations are in regard to speed, controllability, and ease of cleaning. Built-in ovens and hobs..... Having read numerous reviews and user comments on built-in ovens and hobs there appear to be two themes which come through regularly... The first is... they seem to be overcomplicated, and the instructions are not too brilliant (sometimes the heat settings are quite a bit out, resulting in food which is burnt on the outside, whilst the inside is still not cooked... this has been mentioned in relation to both baked goods and joints)... make sure you get a full instruction book! The second is in regard to delivery... if you are in the process of having a kitchen built and do not need the cooker as soon as it arrives, the temptation is to leave it in its box for convenience and safety. NO, never. Check it as soon as it is delivered... if the delivery person will not wait, only sign as 'Not inspected', or don't sign at all. **See note below. If the cooker is damaged you need to inform them, I think, within 7 days... be very sure of your rights. Why not check your credit card rules and regulations too, and see if you are covered by their guarantee as an extra safeguard?
Built-in ovens and hobs..... First let's deal with kitchens which are about to be newly installed. In some cases the actual appliances are included in the deal... make sure you can have SOME input on the choice of brand, after all they WILL have to give you a choice of fuel, because not everywhere has access to gas. If the appliances, or some of them are included in the deal... see if you can upgrade to the built-in ovens and hobs of your choice... if you have a large family more than one hob could be a useful option. Decide upon the fuel you want, and also whether a single oven would be large enough, or whether you really must have a double. [Another thought, when you add up the cost... if you will not be staying in the property for many years... would a range style cooker be a better buy? You could take that with you when you moved. See our page on Range Cookers.] Built-in ovens and hobs..... For replacement built-in ovens and hobs, your only considerations will be whether you were happy with your current brand, and fuel choice. If you were, then you just need to make sure you can get a replacement in the correct size. If you were unhappy with either your fuel choice, or the actual appliance and don't want to buy that brand again... then you will obviously want to choose a different option. Built-in ovens and hobs..... For those considering supplementing their existing oven or hob, that's easy... measure your available space. Decide if you want to go with your existing brand or not... then go for it!
Built-in ovens and hobs..... First an overall mention of brands which are normally above average for reliability, or which have been recommended in the various other cooker sections... these include... At Argos.co.uk
Be-direct Also a best buy is the Zanussi ZDQ595X which has a double oven and is praised by users. Their selection of gas and electric hobs is extensive too... remember the price you see is the price you pay... a very reliable firm with a business history of around 50 years! At the Co-op Electrical Shop you will find a large selection of hobs and ovens made by the ever reliable Bosch brand... just type 'built-in oven' into the 'Search' box at the top of the page to get a full list [much easier to use the search box and ignore the left hand side headings]. Tesco have a very good selection of Zanussi hobs and one rather expensive Belling. Their choice of ovens is rather limited, when checked, but could improve at any time.
Built-in ovens and hobs..... *To save yourself the chore of cleaning the bottom of your oven... it is possible to buy a 'Magic Oven Liner' which you put on the base of your oven - as long as the heating element is not in the bottom of the oven. If the heating element is in that position, you can get round this difficulty by putting the liner on the bottom shelf instead... this is what I do [helps keep that shelf clean too]. I have had my liner for some years now, and it works very well. I know they are available through Kleeneze and also through Lakeland [see our Cookware page]... you may find them elsewhere too.
