Coffee Maker
At one of my suppliers I found a coffee maker at £7.25... and I have seen another elsewhere at over £1,000. We are looking at a vast range here... and what exactly you want from the machine you intend to purchase will affect your choice, no doubt.
Whether you intend to have your appliance on the worktop and in use daily, or just use it occasionally... using instant coffee for the remainder of the time... will be an important consideration.
No doubt you will have heard various claims that coffee is bad for you... various claims that instant coffee is worse, or better than others... various claims that cafetiere makers, and the coffee they produce, are better or worse than others... and so on.
One claim is made then countered by another... I think the only thing to do is to enjoy what you enjoy... even if you decide to enjoy it in moderation! Just drink in that glorious scent, sniff out that aroma, breathe in the bouquet!
There are so many different kinds of coffee which you can make, plus types of coffee maker with which to make them, that it is extremely difficult to make any definitive choices... pump models, cappuccino, espresso, latte, filter, fastbrew...
Whichever make and model you finally choose remember that if you are having trouble with your coffee maker it could be that the actual ground coffee you are using could be the main problem.
Some coffees are either too thick or thin for the coffee makers. Also remember that coffee becomes stale VERY quickly. Do not keep ground coffee longer than two weeks, and even then make sure that it is in an airtight container... without this precaution it won't last longer than three or four days.
I have read positive reviews on some Morphy Richards, Kenwood, Gaggia, and Dualit machines.
A couple of tips came out in the reviews... one being that the actual machines are far cheaper online than on the high street.
The other was that whilst the machines often had removable washable filters... the actual cleaning job itself was the only downside to the machine.
What was recommended was that additional disposable filters were used, and further to this advice... use a supermarket own brand of disposable filters... just as good as named brands and far cheaper. Their use will prevent staining and make disposing of the grounds EASY.
