Floor Polishers
Floor polishers... with an advent of a present day fashion for wooden floors, floor polishers will be required in many homes. The increased incidence of allergies and asthma has encouraged this trend.
Genuine old wooden floors, new wood block flooring, or the click together versions of wood flooring... they all require a different approach to that which was applied to the fitted carpeting which was the previous fashion.
I was genuinely disappointed in the lack of both electrical appliances to cope with these types of flooring, and also with the lack of reviews of the few products which were available.

Perhaps I should mention here our page on
Vacuum Cleaner - Minis
which should prove of interest to anyone looking for a super-efficient 'electric broom' type cleaner. The one I recommend is a truly versatile and indispensable household [and car cleaning] tool.

If you only require a machine to do the occasional polish or a machine to prepare the surface of an old floor which you are renovating... then hiring may be a reasonable option. It will also save on storage space.
You will have to get in touch with your local hire centre and find out what they have available... and how much they charge.
For your information I looked up the website of Portatools, who are located in the London area... www.portatools.co.uk If you type 'polisher for wooden floors' into their 'Search' box, a choice of three machines will come up. The daily rates are £25.85 including VAT for a scrubber/polisher, £32.31 inc. VAT for a floor polisher, and £70.50 inc. VAT for a floor surface preparation machine. This should give you a reasonable guide of what to expect.

Three of my favourite suppliers have floor polishers available, all under £100. At present all the detail which is available is the technical supply detail on the websites...
At 24-7 Electrical you will find two machines... the very reasonably priced Vax, which I will detail below, and the Karcher FP222 which makes waxing and polishing really easy and also vacuums up all the residue which is created.
At Tesco there is just the Vax machine available. It can polish and scour, has double head action, has foot controlled on/off switch, and furniture protector. You will find it is slightly more expensive than at 24-7, but delivery is free here.
Lastly, at the Co-op Electrical Shop you will find a Hoover F3871 which is a vacuum polisher. It polishes wooden flooring, vacuums and polishes hard floor surfaces, and polishes and buffs hard flooring.

For convenience I have added links back to our cleaning and home pages. You may also find our page on stick vacuums to be of interest... they clean hard flooring brilliantly...
