Fridges
A refrigerator... built-in, tall, or under the worktop/counter
Fridges - Whether you choose to have a separate refrigerator will depend partly upon your own personal preferences and household requirements, and partly upon your available space.
We have individual pages on freezers, and fridge freezers... so, together with this page on refrigerators, all your questions regarding refrigeration should be answered.

The choice is quite wide, with tall models [at about 175 cm]... models which will fit under the work
surfaces... and models made specifically to be built-in.
The same two brands seem to come up again and again within our refrigeration section as being the all round best buys... Bosch and Whirlpool. No, they aren't the cheapest, but you pay in the long run, and not just in money, for buying an energy guzzling and inconvenient model!
First I will list the best fridges in the various categories, then, at the bottom of the page, there is a list of quality suppliers... stating which models they have in stock at present.

FRIDGES:
As mentioned before, built-in models tend to be more expensive... but if looks matter it will be money well spent for the integrated look.
Whirlpool have two models which come out well in the built-in category... They are both energy rated B, which is good for a built-in model. There is ARG582/3 which has a 148 litre gross refrigerator only capacity, and the ARG588/3 which has a smaller 132 litre gross capacity due to the fact that it has a freezer compartment. Both models are externally the same size the ARG588/3 having the small freezer section (thus cutting down the available fridge space).
For a tall model of the Whirlpool brand try the Whirlpool ARC 1730 which has a gross capacity of 330 litres, and the ever useful reversibly hinged door [sold as right hinged]. It has a height of 175, and is a brilliant 'A' rated for energy consumption, giving very reasonable running costs.
For a tall model of the Bosch brand go for the KSR 34425, or KSR 34465 [silver]... these are of the high specification Exxcel type, and are energy rated 'A'. The height is 170, width 60, depth 65... which is the standard for these models. A few of the impressive list of features are... an all round removable magnetic door seal - useful for cleaning, and it can also be replaced. Supercool feature. Anti-bacterial protection, and reversibly hinged door. Very reasonable running costs of approximately £11.55 per year.
For under the worktop/counter models it is Bosch which comes up trumps... there is product number KTR 15425 [white] and the KTR 15465 [silver version]... the only difference being the colour. With gross fridge capacity of 144 litres, 3 height-adjustable, anti-spill safety glass shelves, plus shelf above vegetable container, interior light, auto-defrost, anti-bacterial protection, reversible door hinging, and the brilliant removable magnetic door seal for easy cleaning and replacement. Removeable worktop... can be built under. Approximate running cost per year is £10.50.
The other product is the Bosch KTL 15425 which is extremely similar in all respects apart from the fact that it has a freezer compartment... this means that there are only 2 glass shelves, the approximate annual running cost is £16.10 [as opposed to £10.50 for the models without freezer compartments], and the net capacity for the fridge is 121 litres, with 19 litres for the freezer compartment.

RECOMMENDED STOCKISTS
I think between the stockists listed we have most of the recommended fridges covered... some more than once. Sorry, but you will have to check which is the cheaper, or cheapest, when you decide to purchase... because special offers are sometimes available which take the price down considerably on some of the websites... and you have to check whether you have to pay for delivery or not and take that into consideration when you come to the final price and offer.
What I have done with some purchases is to take the purchase as far as possible without actually confirming it... shrink that page down, then do the same with the website where you wish to make the comparison. You can then check which is the better overall bargain and finish off the purchase at the site you choose, without having to go through the entire purchase process for a second time.
Co-op Electrical Shop... They stock all the Bosch fridges which are mentioned, they have a good selection of Whirlpool models, but none of those mentioned above, which are rather difficult to find at present.
Argos ... just stock the Bosch KTR 15425 which is the white under worktop fridge, without freezing compartment.
Be-direct
stock Bosch the recommended KTR 15425, KTR 15465, KTL 15425, and KSR 34465 models amongst many other Bosch fridges.
Tesco... has an extremely rapid turnover, but, as of when this page was created they stocked the Bosch KSR 34425, KSR 34465, KTR 15425 and KTR 15465 models.
24-7 Electrical... stocks the Whirlpool built-in ARG 582, plus a highly recommended ARG 979 tall model amongst quite a large selection of other Whirlpool appliances. Also available is the Bosch KSR 34425.

Finally, if we overfill our fridges, or have the thermostat set incorrectly... the purchase of this brand new food safety appliance will be compromised. A good safety precaution against the many food poisoning bacteria is to obtain a good quality fridge thermometer.
I have included details of stockists of thermometers and other wonderful cookware websites on a special page set up for this purpose. Finding good cookware sites is not as easy as it would at first appear.
I find the websites which are just long lists of other sites, which may, or may not, include the items you are looking for most frustrating and time consuming.
Our cookware page has details of just four suppliers... together with details of what you can expect to find at the sites.
