Microwave

Microwaves... I have had a microwave since they first came out, and have found it to be a great boon in the kitchen.

Many 'cooks' turn their noses up at them, but you have to live in the world as it is, not some ideal place where everyone loves to cook, and what is more, has the time to do so every day.

There are on the other hand brilliant cooks who take on board the new technology... have put it to the use it is best suited for, and have even created recipe books especially for microwave cooking.

If you want a good and practical recipe book for your new oven why not go to www.FetchBook.Info: New & Used Books
Find the Lowest Price - Compare more than a hundred book stores, 60,000 sellers, in a click... where you will find lots of cookery books.

My recommendation would be Classic 1000 Microwave Recipes by Sonia Allison... I always like her books, as they are not too finicky and fussy.

On Fetchbook you would probably be able to locate a secondhand copy, or at least get a best price recommendation on where to obtain a new one.

As well as buying a microwave recipe book, you may be lucky and get a half decent recipe section in the instruction book which comes with your microwave.

Just a few tips - for new owners - for cake baking in the microwave. As a liquid use WATER, not milk. Don't overmix, just roughly incorporate all the ingredients... it doesn't need to get air incorporated as in traditional cooking. The mixture will need to be more liquid than for traditional cooking.

To line a cake 'dish'... use a paper towel, fold in half... and have the edges to the middle of your dish, draw round the outside of your dish... so that when you cut it out you will have two half circles... this makes it easier to peel the paper off after cooking.

When cooked use the bottom of the cake as the top, then ice with glace icing. You can quickly make a delicious chocolate cake using these tips.

I have always used Sharp microwaves and they still regularly come out as best buys. Models used to be much more expensive, much larger, and with a far lower power output than the ones which I am now recommending.

There are some Sharp microwaves which I will recommend... and an alternative, if neither of these suits your requirements...

The Sharp R-209 is the cheaper, and smaller machine... just a basic, with no frills and no extras - like a grill.

The Sharp R-957SL and R-958SLM are good all round microwaves... but expensive... it all depends on what you want to use them for. Also check out your available space, as it is on the large side.

If none of these are your ideal models, why not look at the Panasonic NN-A754W or NN-A755W... as they are regularly quoted as being extremely good.

Where can you buy these models?

For the basic (no grill) Sharp R-209WH a good bet is 24-7 Electrical. At present the price is under £45. You will also find the Sharp R957SL and R958SLM on offer. The Panasonic 'Combination Oven' is available too at 24-7 Electrical.

There is a good range and choice at . They now have an extremely extensive selection of reasonably priced goods available online. Check out those online prices NOW. [I saved over £21 by buying online, on an item which cost less than £100 in-store.]

Be-direct stock the Sharp R-209 plus various other Sharp machines and a Panasonic NNA574.

Argos just stock the basic Sharp R209 at present.

Whilst Littlewoods Home Shopping have just the Panasonic available.
