Choosing the Best Food Mixers for Your Needs

Best Mixers - hand mixer - hand whisk - electric whisk - beater, whatever you call them... I think they are a first class "must have" kitchen appliance. They are so versatile, so easy to use and clean, and SO cheap... I don't imagine you could find any better or more useful tool for the money!

There are several types available:

  • Hand-Mixers
  • Upright-Mixers
  • Countertop-Mixers

I know you have to find cupboard space for these brilliant little appliances... but I would call one a "kitchen essential".

Of course you can buy a far grander free-standing foodmixer, and spend hundreds of pounds on it, if you want... but besides the cost, the fact that it is a large machine so takes up a great deal of your valuable worktop area, and only does the same job as the hand held version... consider this...

  • it is more difficult to dismantle
  • more difficult to wash
  • and although it frees you from actually holding it, the problem is that it doesn't do the job as well as the hand held version because the same amount of air cannot be incorporated into the mix!

You can use it in a bowl, saucepan, or, my favourite mixing utensil, one of those large plastic jugs... I just find the jug handle SO helpful and useful.

Brilliant for egg whites [for meringues and pavlovas] and yorkshire pudding mix... I just put whatever I'm using in my jug and hold both at as great an angle as I can achieve, without spraying the mix all over the place... this way you can incorporate just SO much air into your ingredients... An ordinary standard mixer is the best. Not many stores on the net want to bother with stocking basic cheap items, but two of my suppliers have come up trumps with a mixer by the recognised leaders... Kenwood... it is the Kenwood HM220 which has stainless steel beaters, is easy to take apart and store. Comfortable to use, very light, has 3 speeds... and is remarkably cheap... what more can you ask?

Go to 24-7 Electrical... first click Home Appliances, then choose Small Kitchen Appliances, then select Food Mixers and Kenwood and click Go... and you will find the best buy Kenwood HM220 which has a 150 watt motor and the Kenwood HM320 which boasts a 250 watt... apart from the price and wattage, both models are much the same.

As long as they don't get dropped, or receive other maltreatment, they should last for many, many years... with totally troublefree usage...what a bargain buy!
