Pressure washers are used for the removal of grime and algae from paved areas... helping to avoid the area becoming slippery. They will also wash down plastic outdoor furniture, though their use is not advised for outdoor furniture made from wood. Another use is for the removing of mud from around the wheel arches and under your car... the pressure is normally too strong for safe use on the paintwork. They make a wonderful present... and could be considered a 'boys toy' by some. Be very aware that the water pressure is VERY strong and could easily cause significant damage to... • paintwork • unprotected skin • sand/filler between bricks & paviors If you are considering purchasing a pressure washer for your own use, and are in two minds whether or not you will get sufficient use out of one... two further thoughts... • Have you got plenty of storage space to be able to store, get at, and use, one? • Why not hire a good quality one and see how you like it?... cost... in the region of £30. As for the actual best buys, well the best known brand is the Karcher... and their dominance in the market place means they are the ones to beat for quality [though I can think of other appliances where this does not necessarily follow]. Karcher now do smaller, cheaper machines as well as the originals... so if you want a good lightweight pressure washer, try the Karcher 110... and for a larger heavyweight the Karcher 650 is by far the best. My favourite brand for electrical appliances, simply because they are so reliable, Bosch, also has a good washer... the Aquatak 120i. • Where is it best to buy these machines? • Price? A pressure washer is somewhat of a special case. The demand is not so great as for, say, a vacuum cleaner or a TV... therefore you will have great difficulty finding them in a normal electrical store, be it High Street or Online. They are more a specialist tool, and, as such, are stocked in more DIY and general stores, plus garden centres and shopping catalogues. As for price, you may get a discount at what is considered an 'out of season' time of year... possible during any of the Autumn months, but don't hold your breath! I have included a list of suppliers... can I first mention the large Karcher 650... I have just one supplier of this machine Argos Let me mention the downsides of going to the actual store... you can't pre-order this item online, or by telephone, therefore you have to take your chances as to whether they will have it in stock when you go. If where you live has a traffic planner like the one here, well parking and collecting such a large and heavy item would be a nightmare. Our county planner would expect you to collect it on a bike! Far better and more reliable to order online... there is Free Delivery On All Online Orders Over £150 To find pressure washers... go to the top of the
Argos The other two machines were more difficult to find though other representatives of the brands, Karcher and Bosch were available. I have found three possible suppliers... stock is changing daily in the first two stores so let me just tell you where you can find the pressure washers within the websites... then you can do an up-to-date search. First try Tesco... the left hand side is where you will do your searching. Choose Electricals & DIY, next choose Gardening & DIY, click on DIY and there you can select Pressure Washers. If they haven't got what you want it is always a good idea to check them out frequently, some things sell out... and replacements arrive, often. Tesco stock [as of when I am writing this] both brands. Also you can try GoneGardening... their site is divided into departments... choose 'Machinery' then it will be easy to select what you are looking for. Their stock will have a good turnover as they are an obvious choice when looking for what are deemed garden electricals. My final recommendation is Littlewoods Home Shopping... if you want to buy a pressure washer on 0% credit you can have up to 52 weeks to pay, can't be bad!
