Steamers are sold primarily under the healthy cooking umbrella. The reason being that they help to keep more of the vitamin content within your food. Whilst it is certainly true that steaming is a far better method than boiling in this respect... using a microwave is said to be even better. That said, there are normally three to four baskets [or 3 + a rice bowl] in the steamer therefore an entire meal can be done in one appliance... so you should save on energy... important in the current climate! Bear in mind, though, that the actual steaming procedure takes quite some time. Two more things... if you have wall cupboards above your worktop... in all probability one won't fit below them as these appliances are usually in the region of 40 cm [16 in.] tall. And if they do fit be very careful not to scald yourself in the steam if you reach into the cupboards. Don't forget to check this out! One thing to remember when you are doing the actual cooking... do not add any salt or flavourings.
